Refurbishing' old Warrior Greek pikes

Bought this lot about three years ago - finally getting round to refurbishing the pikes...

The first lot of 48. Actually 47 because I miscounted... one of the rear bases only has 3 figures at the moment. Correcting that mistake by painting an extra figure to the next unit...

There are two different poses - this is the front rank pikeman (not going to call them phalangites!)

And these are the back rank figures.

There's also an officer (acquired separately) hidden there somewhere. This photo gives an idea of how crude the figures are, as well as the fact they don't fit very well on DBX bases!

  1. Those old venerable troops have turned out rather nicely, they look good and nice little figures.

    1. I would say they paint up to an acceptable basic wargames standard and are useable :)

  2. They may be crude, but they have character. With no shields I think they make better fantasy figures than anything historical - be good teamed up with the Amazons.

    1. Agreed - when I bought them the comment I made was 'but will provide a lot of cheap levy pikes for my Atlantian army.'

  3. They are nice but do have a touch of Hollywood or Peplum about them!

    1. Agreed - the poses are a bit OTT and those helmet crests!

  4. These chaps have a very Runequest feel about them! Strangely my thoughts recently have turned to old Hoplite figures. Just when I am getting somewhere with my Elizabethan forces too. I have a huge box of Naismith designs that I keep thinking about.

    1. At the moment, I'm just trawling through loads of figures I should have painted years ago. When the Warrior are finished I may have a quick look at all the Minifigs Romans I've got. Or possibly the 'S' Range Celts...
