TMP and Copyright

Firstly, I have no objections to people using photos from my blog (although would appreciate a credit or link).

A current picture from my blog appears on TMP:  http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=493650 I have no objections to this but:

TMP claims copyright for all content on their site:

Copyright Notice
The Miniatures Page,
comprising all web pages at theminiaturespage.com,
©1994-2018 Bill Armintrout

The TMP version is that TMP owns all copyright - in fact, re things posted by someone on TMP  'If it's your own post you want to copy, ask and we'll automatically give you permission to do so.' - which is one reason why (when I was with TMP) I always posted anything I wanted to use on my site first.

So...

If anyone wants to post anything from here, I'm generally quite happy with that, but would appreciate a credit or link. This does not confer ANY further permissions, so if you post anything of mine on TMP - don't ask Bill for permission, ask me.

For interest, the post it was taken from is:

    1. Sorry, don't accept anonymous insults to people

  2. We're just trying to keep people from taking material from TMP and posting it somewhere else without anyone's permission. We're not trying to claim ownership of photos from anybody's blog. :-)

    1. That's good to know and the fact that you do say that you would automatically give someone permission to use their own posts automatically. However, you are clasiming copyright... again, I have no objections to people using things from my blog - but it would be useful if, in your faq or on the copyright page, you issued a statement to the effect that any copyright material that is posted on TMP remains the copyright of the original owner, not TMP - and, ideally, this is credited and/or linked to. As usually happens with written text.

Meanwhile, I am quite happy for TMP to post items from my blog and give you permission to do so. But copyright itself is retained by me.

    2. As an afterthought: rephrase your comment: 'I'm just trying to to keep people from taking material from my blog and posting it somewhere else without anyone's permission.' - as I said, I'm happy to give that permission...

  3. Bill you say you want to "keep people from taking material from TMP and posting it somewhere else without anyone's permission."

Yet you do absolutely nothing to stop people, including at least one prolific and persistent offender, taking material from elsewhere and posting it on TMP without anyone's permission.

    Complete double standards.

  4. Derek, we have rules on our forum to respect copyrights and limit what people can post.

    1. I suspect the point being made is that those rules are not upheld in a consistent fashion.

    2. My point is Bill is behaving hypocritically. He says he wants to "keep people from taking material from TMP and posting it somewhere else without anyone's permission" whilst allowing, or even encouraging, the reverse behaviour.

And the TMP rules are indeed applied inconsistently.
