Some Prussian cuirassiers

Now right back on track for a couple of days...

Russian cuirassiers painted up as Prussians.

Helmet crest not quite the same, but then the horses aren't the right ones anyway.

Still, they do the job.

Comparison with the original Russian test figure. The uniforms are similar enough so that I'll probably still use Russians as Prussians and Prussians as Russians when I need to.

Russian Cuirassier squadron

Though would double up as a Prussian squadron at a push...

Cuirassiers and Dragoons, led by the original test figures.

Again, quite happy the way they turned out.

At a distance, even the (painted on) holster caps look OK.

So, to put things in context:

I've got Russian heavy cavalry, Prussian hussars, a couple of Austrian cannon with one crew... As yet neither the British or French have a decent complement of infantry and the British are still short of cavalry... and the French (or possibly the Allies) have a Bavarian artillery stand...

So I'm currently trying to paint a unit of Dragoon Guards for the British as well as painting another infantry battalion. Naturally, it's Prussian...

And the Dragoon Guards were meant to be Scots Greys - I had forgotten they wore bearskins - a later conversion job? Can't have a British army without the Scots Greys, wouldn't be right.

1897 Lancers and Cuirassiers

First of the Irregular Miniatures cavalry. These are very different in style to the Spencer Smith figures - have to admit, I prefer the Irregular horses. On the other hand, with the Spencer Smith website you can link directly to a particular page.

 
The Lancers are serving as generic British Lancers - they're actually Prussian Uhlans but the only really noticeable difference is the lack of a plume. Closest Regiment would probably be the 9th.

The French Currasiers are likewise quite generic - fact is, don't know enough about them to be specific. Saddlecloth may be wrong for rank and file - pictures suggest plain for these, blue edged with red for officers - prefer the blue/red combo so...

And this is a comparison between Spencer Sith and Irregular cavalry figures. Important thing being they are basically compatible.
