Sorting and tidying

As time goes on my wargames table gradually gets filled up with things that prevent me from doing battles or anything. So time for a bit of a sort...

Adding to that, I'm filling a lot of boxes with figures at the moment and needed to sort some space to act as shelf space.

And somewhere amongst that lot I found another elephant and a few more Indian elephant riders...

Mould 159 Medieval Era

Latest mould back from Pete includes the entire Medieval Era classical range. I'll have to see how well they fit alongside the 25mm Medieval archers and xbows.

Basically means I've now got a production mould for the entire Medieval Era Range.

Games night

One thing when Steven visits is that we tend to spend the odd evening doing games. This gave us the chance to play Sandra's latest purchase from Partizan - Forbidden Island. Turned out to be a good game, running around the island and trying to gather up all the 'treasures' before the island sank below the waves. Sadly, though, we lost...

Next one was strange. A game we've had for years and has proven to be a favourite. Strange? Don't know how many times we've played the game, but this is the first time we've managed a three way draw!

Another thing we do when Steven's home is some kind of wargame or project... Anyway, a while back I got Steven a 15mm Irregular Sassanid army. Of course, Ian then announced his retirement so Steven put in an order tofill out the army. his left him with the thought of doing a 40x40mm camp. Seemed like a get idea to give him a chance to play with balsa and assorted power tools... result, a couple of camps which he'll paint when he gets home (should add he did the design and modelling, I just provided materials and help in the techniques to use.) Should get some pictures oif the finished camps when he paints them.

More elephants

Definitely in a bits and pieces period... couple more of the elephants lying around. Should have made them Seleucid but already had eight Seleucid armoured elephants, don't need any more. So I stuck some Indian archers in to add to the Indian herd. Figures were just as they were - painted the mahout and stuck it on a base, that's it.

Not sure what to do with all the extra elephants really - got more than I need. They're not brilliant, but I keep thinking of just selling off the surplus. Minifigs currently charge £8 for just the elephant, no crew etc. Crew cost £4.55. Total for an elephant £12.55... so if I charged £50 for the 6 inclusive of UK postage it would be worth it...

Indian elephants

Adding to the list of odd units that have been lying around for ages are these four elephants

I got them from different long-forgotten sources and they were in pretty poor condition -had to give one a new trunk because the olds one was missing. Used a Garrison Seleucid elephant trunk - badly fitting and I haven't even filled in the join!  Crew are from my stock of spares. Still a low grade unit but it brings my Indian elephant corps up to 13 animals including the general so worth doing!

I also had a couple of elements of cavalry lying around so finished them off as well...

Oxford cars

With playing around making a sort of 20/25mm Newhaven I thought about getting some 1/76th scale cars to match - most of my current lot are more suited to 28mm. Expensive, but a one-off for cars and later I'll do an order for trucks and things - plus see what I've already got of course.

G18 'Hoplite with thigh armour and upper arm plates Thracian helmet crested'

This is another unit that has been lying around for ages. Not sure where the 'thigh armour and upper arms plates' are, but that's the written description!

Until I spotted and bought this lot I hadn't even realised the figure had been released - it's not in the 1972 catalogue. It didn't come with an officer or standard bearer so I cast them separately.

What I did have was a master figure that had lost it's spear hand. So the version I normally cast is a 'reclaimed' figure using a spear that is slightly longer than the original' Unpainted redone figure next to one of the bought figures.

Partizan 2026

Met David and David... Handed over some figures David had asked for...

Took too many photos to list here...

Steven played a few games - PBI,  Konflikte 47 for example

Sandra bought a game

I bought a few figures from Hayland Terrain...

I alsoasked about getting a replacement for Dorothy... mine had a slight accident. I put a bandage on the wound but don't think the hand will grow back.

Bought a T1E2 from Empress Miniatures

And finally topped up my supply of paint brushes.

Pretty good day really.

Garrison Classic 'Medieval Era' Range

Only 3 figures in this range - actually sorted the range because I was using the cavalry horse for another 'conversion'

MC1 Mounted knight with lance

M1 Foot soldier with poleaxe

M2 Foot soldier with long spear and shield

These are the figures I was originally working from - basically based on Medieval Islamic cavalry.

The only 'modification' to the rider was to give it a shield from the Khmer range.

(Update 21/5 - figures sent off to Pete Brown to have a mould made!)

Kushite cavalry

First 18 figure Kushite heavy cavalry unit based on the Numidian cavalry. The gloss varnish on this lot aren't making for good photos!

I chose to do a six base unit rather than a four base unit as this corresponds to my normal infantry or light cavalry basing structure. In retrospect, should always have done it this way...

There is a second unit undercoated and waiting in the queue.

I actually did seven  elements - including a general. The Pharaoh is a Greek cavalry figure with a Rose Prestige Range head. The cavalry are a simple paint conversion - rather than sand down the Roman shield pattern I just lathered several coats of paint over the shield!

SKT Catalogue 1990s

Just added this to pages and placed it at the top!

Note: I've not included any of the 54mm figures, Pendragon figures or pohotos. The catalogue itself doesn't include any of the 1968-1972 'Classic' ranges of figures. Most of these figures should be available/castable, just won't always know until I try...

Sarmation HC Horse Archers

Rhoxolani MC - at some stage I intend to do an Alan/Rhoxolani conversion of the cataphract by cutting the kontos down, at which time I'll be able to do mixed LC/MC units with JLS/B/Sh. I painted the armour using Vallejo leather brown - can't say I like that choice, red leather would be better and use the leather brown for belts, etc.

It's a nice figure - found the masters but no record of the figure, made it as a one piece casting because the original separate rider didn't cast easily. Must admit I  like painting up the standards, just don't think of them as being in any way realistic!

S Range Spartan cavalry

Over the years I've collected a lot of odd figures and units that really need to be spruced up a bit. This lot seem to have been sourced from at least two different places...

Anyway, can't see me doing a full overhaul of these so I've pretty much done the minimum to make them presentable. At least it's another unit on the roster.
