'Even more prehistoric miniatures'

 'Hi Dad,

It has been a long while since an update so I thought I would share my progress again. A lot of these miniatures were Christmas presents from various people (including you and Mum, of course). These 15mm prehistorics are addictive. I do feel bad about my other currently abandoned projects.'

Figure 1 Slightly converted Libyan archers by KhurasanMiniatures. I cut the feathers off the heads (except the chief, who got to keep his, along with a flashy sabre-tooth tiger skin cloak) and added green stuff to make the clothing more like furs.

Figure 2 An Orc House from Baueda, but it works well as a prehistoric dwelling too. I may scratch build some more using the modelling putty you gave me. I found a good guide online to follow.

Figure 3 Stone Circle from Copplestone Castings

Figure 4 Animal Lair from Copplestone Castings

Figure 5 Another animal lair. It was interesting putting a lot of subtle colour variations on the rocks to make them look more realistic. Sensible people would dry brush them and be done in five minutes, but not me.

Figure 6 Animal lair number 3

Figure 7 A pack of grey wolves from Copplestone Castings. Most wolf miniatures are over-sized fantasy giant wolves. To get a more realistic size, I had to go down a scale to 10mm.

Figure 8 A close-up of one of the above.

Figure 9 I spent a lot of time looking at reference photos of wolves, and they are very varied in colour and pattern. For variety, I therefore did a second pack of brown wolves.

Figure 10 Another close-up. I also distinguished between the packs by giving the brown wolves more rocky bases, in contrast to the more vegetated, woody bases of the grey wolves.

Figure 11 The great white wolf. An actual 15mm miniature by Demonworld. This one is the pack leader of the brown wolves.

Figure 12 A giant black wolf, the pack leader of the grey wolf pack.

Figure 13 The two giant wolves together. Spent ages on their bases so this shows the other side of them.

Figure 14 I quite like this experimental overhead view of the giant wolves, and it shows some of the base details which are less clear in the earlier photos

Black Tree Design

OK, lousy reputation, like the figures so every now and then I put in a smaller order than I would normally. Two came through -as I recall one was 6 weeks, one about 8 weeks - latest put in February, several emails with no reply, finally lost patience and contacted PayPal. Assume they've now just giving up on sending out orders... strongly suggest you don't deal with them.

7 Years War Prussian Fusiliers

My original thought was to produce 3 infantry regiments, 2 cavalry and 1 gun. This unit completes that so everything else is a bonus!

Colour scheme and standard make this my interpretation of the 38th Regiment.

To be fair, I did the red to match the rest of the army then found a regiment and flag to fit!

Uniforms look so similar I decided to use a French officer to add a bit of variety.

Salute 52 (2025)

So, Steven at the start... we went around for a while before he vanished for most of the day...

Some interesting figures around.

Pity about a couple of the photos.

Nice to meet a group from my home town, Gateshead.

Though from Low Fell rather than the Team  Valley where I came from.

Another photo that didn't work very well.

But they had a good stand

Bought some paint.

Plus my year's supply of paint brushes.

Liked the layout on this game.

Plus a nice little western set up.

Nice idea. I was seriously tempted...

Lots of options - it's certainly worth going through. So website bookmarked

Not a major Warhammer fan but this lot...

Certainly impressive!

And this one ...

Quirky terrain, very steampunk in looks.

Another one for impressive terrain. And tanks. Lots of tanks.

Love that building.

Overall, impressive display.

This one caught the attention. Real 'smoke'.

A Crooked Dice scenario.

Very neat  and simple layout. Plus I've already got some of the Sarissa buildings in my Newhaven set up.

Amd that was Salute 52...

7 Years War Prussian hussars

Hussars based on figures on the Kronoskaf website.

Couldn't decide which ones to do so I did 1 squadron each based on 3 different regiments...
2nd Regiment, Zieten hussars. They are all simplified to a certain extent.
5th Regiment, Ruesch hussars. Never really know how to do all black - not obvious here but the dolman and pelisse and have been painted Panzer Grey with the fittings and saddlecloth black.
8th Regiment, Seydlitz hussars - apparently these are Bosniakens.

That finishes the cavalry. Next, a unit of fusiliers - already started - then another gun crew and that will complete the basic army. I might add  another unit of musketeers and a second unit of fusiliers, but that's just a tentative thought - may start either a French or Russian army next (Russians will be 'paint conversions') Or I might get back on track and start the Byzantines...
