And...

 ...Some more pulp figures finished...

Assorted servants, lab staff plus the odd guy with green skin and tentacles aroung his face. Nearly finished all the pulp figures...

And guess what? - more figures arrived from Scotland. Might be a while before I get on to things such as Dr Who and friends..

Still, slowly getting there...

Sunday 28 January 2024

An eclectic bunch...

Another batch, mainly 25/28mm. Really must be getting towards time for painting some more Greeks or Persians.

Some servants. I've retouched the maid's hair since this photo - missed some out. Must get more sitting figures sorted.

Minifigs succubus? Looks like a variant of the one in the Minifigs catalogue so not certain. No idea where or when I got it.

Additions to mad scientist and just plain mad section. In the pulp world, no such thing as too many mad scientists.

Just random investgator types. Must think of how to do that monocle better.

And finally some generic victim types...

Still a few more to get through yet!

Lizardmen and Froggies

A few more reinforcements for the Cult of Dagon.

25mm rather than 20mm but still fit in with the 20mm figures - well, lizards are bigger than people. Generally goes with the US conspiracy theory about Repotilian Overlords.

And a small band of Batrachrian foot soldiers from the reef.

No doubt I'll be adding to these - still got a few more lying around.

Burns Night and some Bluegrass...

Busy week with two events covered.

Burn's Night at the Grove in Cromer. The piper is called Peter MacFarlane who I met last year. My tie and his kilt are both Dress MacFarlane... only there is a traditional and modern version. The modern version is a bit brighter using modern dyes and represented by my tie; traditional uses duller traditional 'natural' dyes as shown on the kilt.We had quite a nice chat.

The Bluegrass part of the week was seeing Mollie Tuttle in King's Lynn. She was actually a supporting act for Tommy Emmanuel. They have released one song with both of them.

Not really looking for more but...

If I can get 92 monster army figures for under 20 quid...

Dalek x 43

Weeping Angel x 13

Cyberman x 20

Sontaran x 16

Update on opening pack -seems there's 3 types of Dalek - one smaller black Dalek and 2 different models of the 'normal' size.

Back to pulp people

I've got a load of pulp figures to start/complete so thought I should get on with them. This lot are all 25-28mm.

Loonies and monsters... Figure in the middle is Malice from the Alice in Gerunderland range. Figure on the far left is a Medusa - the green snake's heads don't show up well. In Prussian blue at the other end of the row another 25/28mm convert for the Cult of Dagon. Plus a couple of slightly insane people.

Various working folk, various ranges. The bald headed rather fishy looking character started life with a pitchfork; it snapped off when I was setting up for photos.

Various civilians of a slightly higher social status (plus a chauffeur) - think the one at end on the left might be a covert super hero or super villain.

Assorted bits of furniture

Catching up on some of the Frontline furniture I got a year or two back...

Firstly, furnishings for the local hostelry.

Hotel lobby or similar.

And a few bags from the local corner shop.

Still working through some other bits of furniture.

Anyscale fleet

Still on a 'go back and finish off' phase.

Getting on with the Anyscale  fleet I bought last year.

Includes a few fishing boats. Painted for wargames, including just one coat of paint so colours aren't just a single shade.

FP stands for Fair Port, their home harbour. The numbers have no significance that I am aware of!

I like these vessels.

The various sail boats will have their number increased.

Likewise the rest of the boats. The range seems to have expanded since I bought these.

Couldn't resist them...

'20PCS Luminous Tree Elves Figures, Alien Figure for Garden Ornaments Outdoor Miniature Fairy Garden Decor, Glow in the Dark Spirits for Micro Landscape, Succulents, and Pot Decor (Blue & Green)'

Found on Amazon. 20 of them for £7.99. Right size, look like they would make good aliens or supernatural beings...

... And they glow in the dark... Sure there are opportunities there...

NME finished

Very plain, no markings... The idea is to provide an occasional enemy rather than a regular enemy.

Still to check for size/compatibility are some of my cheap Chinese things.

The rocket corps can be dismounted...

Plus the trucks themselves may prove useful

And there are helicopters.

With assorted (though too late) aircraft and different types of rocket it should be possible to ring the changes.

It's a bit of a pity that the tanks are not big enough!

Starting NME Forces and...

They're not all the same!

The majority are like this. Standard Airfix Patton tank.

One still seems to be a Patton judging by the mg turret. But it's completely different. I assume an earlier version though the road wheels are detailed better.

Finally, one with a Patton turret on a Centurion body.

No matter - these are due for an even cruder paint job and, as generic NME tanks, the oddities could simply be different versions or something.

Pulp 60's Armoured Division

OK, Not a proper armoured division, purely a pulp version. AC, HQ, Tank troop and SP RA detachment only...

I like the way they have turned out. Still not 100% on the colour but it is growing on me.

The Division is completely fictional so you won't find this Divisional sign anywhere. I'll probably call it something like the 1st North British Armoured Division or something. Certainly that would be a reasonable working name. Plus the colours on the badge look Scottish.

The Daimlers have been given different squadron insignia rather than all having the same one. So technically I suppose each armoured car represents a squadron. I should probably have done the same thing with the tanks. The Dingo (or Ferret? think it's a Dingo. Must check what is says underneath) is marked as a HQ vehicle.

When it came to allocating tyres I prioritised the armoured cars. As yet, the new tyres for this lot haven't arrived. Part of the Saracens missed being sprayed which I hadn't noticed - now corrected!

So that is the main part of  the pulp armoured division. Still got a few support vehicles to arrive and refurbish but this lot are enough for the fighting bit. Thinking about it, might incorporate some of my cheap Chinese missile trucks for AT and/or AA defence.

Last orders

This little lot pretty much gives me everthing I need in the 20mm range apart from, perhaps, a couple of Saladins. Total cost £15 so still well in target price band.
Interesting comparison. Dinky at the top, Corgi at the bottom. Both models are the same width but the Dinky model is longer. So one of them got their measurements wrong!

Big advantage of these - they all have intact tyres!

Happy New Year everyone!

It was a funny last day of the year. On the 30th went to local farm shop. The owner and his friends go around shooting pheasants and ducks for sport and leave their kill outside the shop for people to take away for free. So grabbed some. Which meant Sunday started with par boiling potatoes ready for New Years Day, used the water from that to boil up a gammon hock, took out the hock, added lentils and made a batch of pease pudding... Then in the afternoon I taught Steven (he's with us for the New Year) how to skin a pheasant, then we plucked three ducks! The pheasants we had for our evening meal. So strange New Year's Eve.

We have sparklies... Chapel Down 'A Touch of Sparkle' - English sparkly, as good/better than champagne these days...

Home cooked food. Later today I'll get the suckling pig on...

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.
