A Cataplanan standard bearer

A new one... the standard tends to snap at the base. That happened to my other one, they don't cast well so when I got some to cast OK I snapped at the chance!

SS26 Aquiland mounted standard bearer painted as Cataplana standard bearer.

Cataplana is roughly related to Portugal as regards colours/myths/etc.

The strange looking cockerel motif  is pure Portugese...

I've got quite a few I bought over there... They make useful additions to the army. My son Steven recognised that they are also the symbol for Nando's - I hadn't noticed it!

My original standard bearer. As you can see, it needed some work!

Another component of a Cataplanan army are Griffons. There are still one or two colonies left in Portugal though rarely seen Useful as fliers, especially as they would probably have been more common in the past.

Yeti!

A nice friendly family group. In the past I've looked at these and thought they weren't very. Painted up I've changed my mind - I like the things!

From the tusks and general attitude I take this one to be the male...

... While this one is a female waving her arms in frustration at him sticking his tongue and throwing stones at the neighbours' windows...

Other news, moulds sent to Pete Brown today so he can cast some of the figures. He'll then send them back to me and I will sort out some of them for 9" moulds.

Holidaying goblin and giant pigmy standard bearer

Darren of Lost Minis Wiki is currently updating the Admins entry and mentioned that he was intrigued by these two. So, thought why not, cast and quickly painted them... it's a couple more photos to add.

AD232 Goblin having a great time on the beach.

AD259 Giant pigmy standard bearer

He's behind you....

No he isn't...Oh. He is...

VIC02 Old lady in jacket with puffed sleeves. I never notice the slight areas where the paint has missed - so this is useful to spot before I upload a picture on to Pages. Hadn't realised this one was missing.

This is about the limit of my abilities with Green Stuff. On the other hand, a few more of these could be quite useful.

Meanwhile, I'm making an effort to give myself the ability to cast a few of the Admins figures that are only on 12" moulds. Two of those moulds have been packed up ready for collection on Saturday. They will be delivered to Pete Brown who will cast a few figures, send them back to me, then I will sort them out and have Pete make some 9" moulds from them.

Russian Company finished

They've been sitting since my Admins distraction - 20 minutes work and they're done!

Still got some Jacklex Arabs to paint, then it's wait for the Chinese to come out!

A few more Admins Victorians

I'm hoping to get most of the Victorian Admins pictures together...

VIC05 Gent in evening dress drawing pistol.

VIC09 Gent in topper and overcoat drawing swordstick

VI15 Adam (Frankenstein's Monster). Like the face on this character - most Admins faces I don't like!

VIC03 Thug in shirtsleeves with broken bottle.

A bit of silliness as a work in progress. Always wanted to do a set of Christmassy figures to play with but never got any of the ones Paul Ashton did. Plus didn't get my hands on the moulds. Anyway, I'm rubbish with greenstuff, but thought I'd give it a try. Red for goodies, green for baddies - the Victorians often did FC in green rather than red. Some of the Admin figures look very useful for a cartoon/toy Christmas grouping... Silly, not very good, but showing promise...

Jacklex Chinese

Been sitting on this for a couple of days as it was embargoed until today...

'Rob,

Here is the full range of the Jacklex Chinese Army. I thought you might like to see them. I hope to have these on the site in a couple of weeks. The new Japanese and Russians will take a little longer.'

Regular infantry

Irregular infantry

Cavalry

Artillery (mine will, of course, use completely wrong Rose guns!)

Needless to say, I've got an initial order on pre order...

1 1x general
2 1x Chinese cavalry
4 20 x regular infantry advancing
7  4 x officers with sword
8  1 x drummer
9  23 x advancing militia
11 12 x peasant
12 12 x peasant
13  2 x gunners
14  2 x gunners
15  2 x gunners
16  1 x flag and pole.

The next batch

Gradually getting through them. I will need to touch up the paintwork on a few before use though.

The ladies.  Some Admins figures are best described as 'NSFW'.

The monsters. One advantage of casting multiple figures is that you can try different colour schemes - don't think green faces worked for the Medusa.

Beginning to get quite a crowd of assorted monks/priests/druids etc - gives the option of some good mix and match cults!

I like this scheme for 'DA34 Incantrix' - she will make a good cult leader. Still haven't decided on the best way of painting the nuns.

VIC07, Village blacksmith.Doesn't really fit in the other groups.

One of the puzzles. In the casting index, this figure is listed as 'AD 250, wizard with dagger and crystal ball'. Sadly, this duplicates 'AD234,wizard with dagger and crystal ball'. LostMinisWiki simply lists it a 'wizard'. To me, it doesn't look much like a wizard. I might rename AD250 as 'Terrified monk on his knees!'

Admins Family Values

Slight digression from 20mm Colonial Pulp... sorting out the Admins catalogue and moulds I naturally started casting and painting the things... Meanwhile, Jacklex Chinese should be out in a couple of weeks (seen pictures - nice figures) and I should get the Russian company finished in a couple of days as well...

This is the first lot finished - more of them on the assembly line and nearly finished.

The Admins Ranges include assorted hermits and wizards in various robes and things. I need priests and monks... so paint scheme reflects this... Amazing how minor paint faults appear in photos - this lot look bad but the models themselves don't.... In order, left to right, DA01 Cleric with club, DA12 Evil priest with skull, VIC08 Village Priest with tome, then one I haven't identified - there isn't a 'preying priest  figure in the range... Actually got a few unidentified figures in the Admins ranges.

DA33 Princess flanked by AD46 Goblin madam and DA11 Village maiden (I think!)

AD258 Nude Lamia, AD154 Howling Banshee (in ragged clothes), AD260 Moral Minority Medusa. Must admit I like these figures - they have a definite charm.

Assorted monster types - AD162 Larva in front, AD256 Sqidhead with staff and VIC14 Count Vladimir Dracula at the back.

VIC01 Bailiff in long coat and VIC11 Murderer in bowler hat with razor - onething about this range, needs more 'civilians'!

VIC06 Sinister Arab with dagger and VIC18 Inscrutable Chinaman - Both, I think, should be very useful. Possible conversion potential as well?

So, gradually sorting through these. Some figues are catalogued incorrectly, others not identified - at some stage I may just rename some of them!

Thursday 10 November 2022

French infantry brigade finished.

Nothing else to say really - now done 3 x 3 company batallions of infantry, 2 guns and a general. All on element bases.

All that is needed to complete the element-based basic army is a unit of cavalry...

20mm Rose '1897' Generals

In reality, Rose 'Duke of Wellington' figure. Not sure when these were originally designed, but they appear in the 1958 Rose catalogue! They make decent late fictional late Victorian senior officers of doubtful accuracy!

For some reason bridles rarely cast well on this figure - so on all of these the bridles are made of green stuff!

Although I call the early Garrison figures 29mm, in fact this is purely to distinguish them from the large 25mm figures. This comparison between a '20mm' Garrison general and the Rose version shows this quite well...
