First of the Irregular Miniatures cavalry. These are very different in style to the Spencer Smith figures - have to admit, I prefer the Irregular horses. On the other hand, with the Spencer Smith website you can link directly to a particular page.
The Lancers are serving as generic British Lancers - they're actually Prussian Uhlans but the only really noticeable difference is the lack of a plume. Closest Regiment would probably be the 9th.
The French Currasiers are likewise quite generic - fact is, don't know enough about them to be specific. Saddlecloth may be wrong for rank and file - pictures suggest plain for these, blue edged with red for officers - prefer the blue/red combo so...
And this is a comparison between Spencer Sith and Irregular cavalry figures. Important thing being they are basically compatible.
I do like the Irregular figures , I'm a big fan of single piece castings .
ReplyDeleteLikewise - though not all the figures in the range are single piece castings and the separate heads, etc, common to Spencer Smith figures let them build up a massive range.
DeleteThey look the business.
ReplyDeleteI feel I'm starting to get somewhere with them.
DeleteGiven what wonderful horses Britain's did its a wonder to me that the new 'toy style' horses by both companies are so wonky.
ReplyDeleteStill, they do paint up into rather attractive toy soldiers in the end.
True, but then again Britain's produced millions of figures... different, harder metals and the early ones are very crude compared to the more modern efforts. For actual use I'm considering putting them on bases to make them a bit more stable - solid metal rather than hollow cast or plastic makes them very top heavy.
DeleteThese look great! The irregular horses do have quite a charm to them. I like the flexibility of the SS mix and match approach but the very limited horse options and poses are a bit limiting
ReplyDeleteCavalry will certainly be very Irregular biased though will probably get some Dragoons and more Household cavalry from Spencer Smith.
DeleteThese look wonderful. The project is progressing nicely.
ReplyDeleteYes, thank you.
