A fantasy Achaemenid Persian elephant.

As in, this one never existed in reality but would look better for Gaugamela...

Only did one of these - it's already in the realms of fantasy, no need to go completely OTT. The archers are from the chariot set.

Though to be fair, if I wanted to I could always supplement them with the Sassanid version anyway

  1. Fantasy? Just because the Persians didn't use them on the Greek frontier doesn't mean they didn't use a few on their Indian frontier, I mean how much detail do we really know about any of the stuff the greeks didn't write and how much can we trust what they did write? Also, it would seem that these days, not all Sassinids wore bubble hats so they could be Sassinid.

Besides that archer is one of my favourite Garrisin figures as is the elephant and this is a most enjoyable piece!

    1. Think the Sassanids are OK for elephants with the 8 they've already got - actually 9 because there's a Minifigs one as well - and I'm guessing any elephants like the ones supposedly at Gaugamela would be Indian ones with crew astride rather than in a howdah...

But I will certainly look for excuses to use this one!

    1. And I may find out what that purpose is. It's often the case that the prety units are the first to run:(

  3. A splendid beast…
I have to admit that when I saw the post title I was expecting more tentacles 🦑

    All the best. Aly
