What's up with the courier services? (with silly updates)

Ranting.

OK, Today expecting parcel  delivered by Evri. Got a message from them saying they had tried to deliver it - no, they didn't.We were in. So started chasing it up. Got to the Evri site where you were supposed to talk to a real person. No, it didn't. You got a voice that was obvioully either stock recording or AI - it said that the parcel was still with the sender!!! Weird, especially as the package arrived a couple of hours later.

Same day. This time Yodel saying sorry we missed you. No, you didn't. We were in. So complained to the sender -they had sent me an email themselves saying they had been told that a delivery had been attempted! So not impressed with Yodel either.

Meanwhile, might be thinking I owe Canadian customs an apology. It has been a standing joke for years that Canadian custums often hold a parcel for up to 2 months. Well, today we have tracking... and a parcel I've sent to Canada  by FedEx   has been stuck in Nashville since 25 April!!! Well, not quite - tracking says it had a short outing on 25th to France after arriving in Nashville. Incidentally, paid for guaranteed delivery by a certain date, put in claim to FedEx and they turned it down because I did it through an agency!

Really, just getting totally cheesed off with just about every courier service. And US customs of course!

The 'silly update' isn't really connected but good for a laugh. Just got a letter from the hospital saying I have a hospital appointment. It arrived an hour after the time of the appointment... meanwhile we had already cancelled that appointment because it came through in a text a couple of days ago - leaving no time to arrange the blood that's needed to go with it.

And silly update 2 - Sandra and I both received letters from the dentist cancelling our dental appointment and and asking us to rearrange it... a dental appointment change we again already knew about and had already rearranged. In fact the rearranged one had also been cancelled and rearranged... before this letter was sent out!

It has been a really weird couple of days.

  1. LOL - I work for one of the two biggest courier companies in New Zealand - things like this do happen quite often, unfortunately - and international is even worse! For us, however, 99% of items are delivered next working day with no queries - but 1% is probably a couple of hundred individual late items per day!

    1. When it comes to people asking me for figures the actual carriage is the worst part!

  2. Yodel has been my bĂȘte noire, I've had them deliver a package for my wife and on the same day fail to deliver one to me because theysaid my address coudn't be found. They also, another time, knocked down the brick pillar on my extremely wide drive (you can drive two abreast) and broke the concrete fence post behind it - then drove off. Took me months to get them to pay and I strongly suspect that would never had happened had it not all been caught on a door-cam, clearly showing the whole event and the VRN of the perp who just left the package on my doorstep before driving off.

    1. Sounds about right. Yodel and Evri seem to be about the worst, but it seems to be a very low bar... UPS and FedEx seem to be just as bad.
