Clearchus and his friends

Well, finished the direct cavalry conversions.

Nothing else to say, just that it seems to have worked OK with one proviso. I should have used thicker card - a couple of them had a tendency to fall over a bit. Think it worked out in the end though.

  1. Wonderful! I really like your treatment of the shields too.

    1. Hoplite shields are one thing I've always tried to paint well. They're the focal point of the unit - if they look good, so does the unit.

  2. Those look great - the shields are really lively.

  3. Rob, I recently had some hoplite figures confirmed as Garrison on Hinton Spieler's blog (photos posted there) and I wondered if you knew what other figures were produced in that range and whether you could help me obtain some. I came by the figures recently when a close friend died and left them to me so I do not want them remain unused and as they don't match my existing ancient armies I thought I's try rounding them off as a couple of small armies for a retro style grid-based game. Can you help?

    1. If you go to the pages section of this blog and go through the Greenwood and Ball 1973 catalogue you'll find the Greek 25mm range listed. This particular figure was produced in two forms - earlier ones had an attached spear, later on they were produced with separate spears. I've even got 10 of the spearless ones and 4 with spears... small range with some neatly tucked in one box.I also have some other figures in the range, including some cavalry riders but only 3 random horses. So, not a lot of them lying around but can help with some.
