New tree, old one is working out doors this year. |
A place where Ancient Ancient armies can peacefully retire to... Possibly. Oh, and some pulp. A few things on 6mm SciFi tanks and stuff. And the toy soldiers. Especially the War of 1897... And now I seem to be starting on 20mm Napoleonics as well! email GarrisonMiniatures@gmail.com
I've done a couple of other long skirted Amazons and I am painting them up as Britannia types. Still need to paint on the armour and generally tidy the figures up. |
They are a lot smaller than the Minifigs version... not sure about trying a figure with a cloak... |
This venerable S&S Range figure is one I'm not sure about. Don't know if it's finished or not, haven't/hadn't a clue how to paint it in the first place! |
Most recent side project: three ghosts from Pacman. Figures are by Crooked Dice. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any miniatures of Pacman himself.
And finally still expanding the Cthonians... that disc effect on the end of the tentacles was obtained by using a medieval lance for the tentacles instead of a spear... |
Both my painting area and the table I use to set up my light box have been cleared away so things can be set up for Christmas... So next few posts are on things I've been working on and just photographed at the state they're in now... ie, not always fully painted or touched up! I've also taken the opportunity to reorganise the area, including buying a couple of racks to store my paint jars in a less messy way! |
As I've said, trying to go through all the singles. |
A couple of places I've found say that only female griffons had wings. However, they are also supposed to have replaced the wings with spikes, but I'm tending to gloss over that... I quite like this description... |
And here is a hawkman I did a week or so ago... |
Another thing I really should do is snip the fans off a few fan bearers to make that light infantry unit up to six elements - they were a test unit anyway. |
The Queen passing behind the Nobles in their chariots. |
Guard heavy cavalry in front of a medium cavalry unit. I was sorely tempted to add a third spear/shield unit but haven't. |
The 'line' infantry - two archer units in front, three spear armed units in the rear. |
The spear armed units include two medium spear units flanking a Guard heavy infantry unit. |
The non-human component! Tigers and Pegasi with an enchantress riding a tiger. |
That's probably it for units before Christmas - got some individual figures I can get on with before the tree goes, covering my painting station and ending painting until the tree comes down in January! |
As I've mentioned in the past my attempts at starting Roman armies usually fizzle out. This lot are part of my Lamming attempt... |
Plus a umit of cavalry - a couple of them seem to be MIA! |
Some cataphracts that have actually fought in a couple of battles. Can't remember if these are Parthians or Sassanids, I used them as EHC in my Seleucid army. |
Sassanid Arminian javelinmen - although again they fought for different paymasters, usually Achaemenid Persian. |
A couple more Lamming Sassanids but equipped and painted as Persians. Please ignore the parrot perched on top of the standard... |
Completed another two chariots to give the queen a three chariot 'nobles' unit as a personal guard - so the Amazon army now has four chariots including the queen. |
The charioteer figure in the new ones is the 'Amazon scout' figure converted from the dancing slave girl. |
With this unit the army is now 'officially' complete - for the moment. I have enough figures lying around to do another archery unit and another spear armed cavalry unit - not intending to paint these yet, but you know me!
Another one of my crude modelling attempts... a rather large Cerebus. |
Surprisingly, the concept worked even if the execution is a bit iffy. |
Meanwhile I thought 'Oh why not, just paint the oversized flamingoes'... as a flock, they don't look bad. |
Although even the smaller ones are a bit oversized. Flamingoes in real life can grow up to about 5', think the tallest of this lot are about 7-8'! |
Again, armour is simply painted on. |
I'm beginning to like the idea of the officer figure, spear and wearing a long skirt. That white mark on the skirt... looked on the figure and can't find it! |
Latest from Steven - had them for a few days now, just got round to putting them on the blog!
'Hello, I have finally finished the latest round of 15mm prehistoric figures. The new ones are the Khurasan Miniatures I got for my birthday. I don’t feel good today (took sick leave from work) so this is just a photo dump.'
Flock completed with an option to do more later. They're slightly bigger than I intended but look OK - couple need paintwork touching up. |
Another unit for the Amazons - the original Pegasus is the grey (is a white Pegasus a grey same as for horses?) |
One thing missing from the Alice in Gerunderland range is a flamingo. So thought I'd make one. It sort of channels a flamingo rather than being an accurate representation, but I actually like it. |
The legs, neck and beak are all made from spears - the beak being a continuation of the neck. I'll probably do a few more of these. |
