Happy New Year everyone

Still a couple of hours to go but...

Getting ready for the night's game.  It's called Crackerdash Lite.   Steven came second.

Sandra won so I got upset.
But then I realised the game was all wrong. The object is to lose all your crackers.... I finished up with loads so... I get more cheese :)

Building up January's painting pile

Firstly, I now have a 10 Munchkin section of the Mulitia including officer and standard bearer. Haven't the faintest idea what colour scheme their 'uniform' should be. I'll probably start trying to do some villagers next.

Three mock turtles - still very much experimenting with these.

Terror bird and a couple of dodos. Birds seem to be quite easy and there's plenty of mileage left in this area.

I like this one - only one that is Lovecraftian, certainly not the last. Googled 'Lovecraft monsters' and this one came up. Looks pretty good to me!

These have all now been undercoated so I can start work painting them when the tree comes down.

Munch Kin Munks and Mulitia (etc)

So continuing with the sculpting... still very crude, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. Think.

The Munch Kin - descendants of intrepid explorers from the land of Munch, these kin of the Munch foundered settlements along the river they named the Munch. Sadly lacking in imagination they gave these settlements names like Munch City, Munch Town and Munchville. These were my first attempts - I'm still considering paint schemes. Probably my biggest issue is doing hands. I might be looking at using hands from other figures.

A small 'army' called the Mulitia have the job of protecting these  settlements from attack.

I'm also having a go at doing some smaller Alice type figures - here, a turtle and dodo. Once this lot are painted in the New Year I hope they will look better.

From Steven's post, I thought I'd have an attempt at PacMan - Steven will be visiting for a few days over the New Year, so he might make a better attempt.

That's really it until the New Year - won't be having much time to do anything wargames related for the next couple of weeks. Once I've stopped 'playing' with these I'll probably start using some of the other Garrison resources for figures - dollies, hands, heads, etc. That's for 2025.

Couple of other things...

I've done a couple of other long skirted Amazons and I am painting them up as Britannia types. Still need to paint on the armour and generally tidy the figures up.

They are a lot smaller than the Minifigs version... not sure about trying a figure with a cloak...

This venerable S&S Range figure is one I'm not sure about. Don't know if it's finished or not, haven't/hadn't a clue how to paint it in the first place!

Pacman ghosts - by Steven

Most recent side project: three ghosts from Pacman. Figures are by Crooked Dice. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any miniatures of Pacman himself.

After months of painting everything in muted, naturalistic colours, it was nice to break out the bright colours. These were also another go at using the airbrush, with some glazing and washes to refine the paint job. Essentially painted over a weekend, which is very fast for me!

The Swarm and other Lovecraft type horrors

The swarm. Still experimenting with these. The smaller ones are roughly the equivalent of 12' long. Still need a lot of black to be added where bare metal keeps showing! I've tried lots of different facial variations on these, plus I'm looking at some being in 'standing' poses, possibly with weapons. The swarm will also be including some wingless types. Possibly Mi-go types?

Another Mi-go possibility. Still a long way to go painting this and lots of variations to try. I'm thinking basically cross between a bat and a segmented body - still thinking about how long the legs should be.

And finally still expanding the Cthonians... that disc effect on the end of the tentacles was obtained by using a medieval lance for the tentacles instead of a spear...

Working on bits and pieces...

Both my painting area and the table I use to set up my light box have been cleared away so things can be set up for Christmas... So next few posts are on things I've been working on and just photographed at the state they're in now... ie, not always fully painted or touched up! I've also taken the opportunity to reorganise the area, including buying a couple of racks to store my paint jars in a less messy way!

Wingless griffons and a hawkman

As I've said, trying to go through all the singles.

A couple of places I've found say that only female griffons had wings. However, they are also supposed to have replaced the wings with spikes, but I'm tending to gloss over that... I quite like this description...

And here is a hawkman I did a week or so ago...

Amazon Army Review

The army is now officially complete. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't be adding units to it - got enough figures for another archery unit and spear armed cavalry unit lying around staring at me...

Another thing I really should do is snip the fans off a few fan bearers to make that light infantry unit up to six elements - they were a test unit anyway.

The Queen passing behind the Nobles in their chariots.

Guard heavy cavalry in front of a medium cavalry unit. I was sorely tempted to add a third spear/shield unit but haven't.

The 'line' infantry - two archer units in front, three spear armed units in the rear.

The spear armed units include two medium spear units flanking a Guard heavy infantry unit.

Two units of horse archers. The extreme left flank unit with the tiger riding officer is an actual conversion - archer top on cavalry legs and a new bowcase. The other unit is the original - an ordinary archer with the base removed and sanded between the legs until it fit on a horse. The horses have been angled so that the archers aren't shooting their neighbours!

The non-human component! Tigers and Pegasi with an enchantress riding a tiger.

That's probably it for units before Christmas - got some individual figures I can get on with before the tree goes, covering my painting station and ending painting until the tree comes down in January!

Lamming Romans etc

As I've mentioned in the past my attempts at starting Roman armies usually fizzle out. This lot are part of my Lamming attempt...

Plus a umit of cavalry - a couple of them seem to be MIA!

Some cataphracts that have actually fought in a couple of battles. Can't remember if these are Parthians or Sassanids, I used them as EHC in my Seleucid army.

Sassanid Arminian javelinmen - although again they fought for different paymasters, usually Achaemenid Persian.

A couple more Lamming Sassanids but equipped and painted as Persians. Please ignore the parrot perched on top of the standard...

Amazon chariot squadron

Completed another two chariots to give the queen a three chariot 'nobles' unit as a personal guard - so the Amazon army now has four chariots including the queen.

The charioteer figure in the new ones is the 'Amazon scout' figure converted from the dancing slave girl.

With this unit the army is now 'officially' complete - for the moment. I have enough figures lying around to do another  archery unit and another spear armed cavalry unit - not intending to paint these yet, but you know me!

Cerebus. And some friends

Another one of my crude modelling attempts... a rather large Cerebus.

Surprisingly, the concept worked even if the execution is a bit iffy.

Meanwhile I thought 'Oh why not, just paint the oversized flamingoes'... as a flock, they don't look bad.

Although even the smaller ones are a bit oversized. Flamingoes in real life can grow up to about 5', think the tallest of this lot are about 7-8'!

Amazon heavy infantry

The shield design is a variation of the stag I used on the heavy cavalry. The figures themselves are basically conversions of the S&S Range dancing slave girl with the spear arm and shield of a Garrison hoplite. The skirt is green stuff. Standard bearer is a slave girl with fan, all clothing is paint.

Again, armour is simply painted on.

I'm beginning to like the idea of the officer figure, spear and wearing a long skirt. That white mark on the skirt... looked on the figure and can't find it!
