Or... 'Watch out! Grasshopper about!

Going round Salute I saw this nice MDF sub. Can't remember which stand, but a couple of different people do MDF subs anyway. Thing is, 28mm, very big and costing £70. So out with the balsa. |

Kept the length to 12", generic U Boat in a rough sort of way. Nice thing about it, made totally from things I already had lying around. Rails are pins and cut down spears, main gun bought years ago for making cruisers then scratch built the guns on the cruisers, Lewis gun came as a freebie with an order - again, cant remember who by. Thought it was Anyscale (worth a visit!) but couldn't find them in their catalogue. (Update: Found it. Crooked Dice.) |
One thing I didn't do - restrict it's use by painting something like 'U27' on it... may be loosely based on a WW2 German U Boat but that doesn't mean it will be used for that!
That looks grand a nice little model and a lot cheaper than £70! The gun s and crew really add to it.
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasing effort.
DeleteExcellent!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteA medium to dark grey highlight on the leather usually works
ReplyDeleteNever sure about that - another one could be blueish highlights on the horses.
DeleteLooks just right to match up with your figures Rob. If you want to see a really nice U Boat have a look at Glasgow Warhog blog - it was a 3d print and very reasonably priced - might even have been less than £20 - one downside though - I think it was 1m long!
ReplyDeletehttps://glasgowwarhog.blogspot.com/ - nice, bit more detailed/accurate than mine. interesting scenario.
