Carthage - Libyan spearmen

This component of the Carthaginian army looked a bit tired - the shields had been varnished and had yellowed badly over the years. The ostrich plumes were also a bit strange. As a result, I've repainted the shields and given them plain black feathers. The figures are early PB, though the standard bearer (red crested helmet guy) is 'S' Range.

    1. Never really sure how to do cowhide, so just leave it white a few blobs of semi-drybrushed black or brown. Have to confess, usually a bit more of the semi than I did here. But yes, it looks effective.

  3. Striking units. The cowhide shields really stands out. Reminds a bit of the Zulu cowhide shields although a different shape.
