Carthaginian Elephants

There's nothing more impressive on the Ancients wargames table than a large corps of elephants. So this lot should be quite impressive.

I've resisted the temptation to do anything other than base these. I'm not sure how the howdahs are managing to stay on the elephants...

The elephants themselves are a bit strange - seem to be 'S' Range elephants and mahouts, but the howdahs have been replaced by Garrison ones and the crew are Minifigs PB Range.

  1. They certainly have a mean look to their eyes!

    1. Yes, having the eyes painted does work on these.

  2. Fantastic bunch of elephants. On most pics the howdahs seem to be fixed with strong cords.
The eyes give them a nice frightening look. O.K. they were meant to be "terror weapons" in ancient times..

    1. The elephant is the same one as used by the Indians riding bareback. Could be that's what they were. Fact is, I've got a lot of figures to sort/base/repaint so strapping these ones up 'properly' is simply a very low priority. One strange result of this lot is that my own Garrison Carthaginian elephants are in use for 3 armies - Turan/Vanha, Successor, Atlantean - but not for Carthage!
