My wife Sandra likes rearching our families. As part of this we've both had our DNA checked out...
So, no real shocks there - always knew the family was half Irish and half Northern England/Borders. Irish being McFarlane and Flynn. Would have thought the detailed version would have had a more Irish component though from the Flynn side.
But where did the 1% Central Asian come from?
And no German or Scandinavian - interesting result! Do you have a Hunnic army in your collection by any chance? :)
ReplyDeleteI was expecting at least some Scandinavian, so perhaps that was the only surprise. Huns I left to Ian Beck...
DeleteNo doubt Rob, you will be one of the many related to Genghis Khan.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that supposed to be over a quarter of the world's population? Could explain a few things.
DeleteI would like to think that Hun genes in a Briton comes down from some Roman auxiliary.
ReplyDeleteIt comes under the heading 'mystery'.
DeleteStrange there is no Scandanavian...I am sure I read/ heard 75% of Britons have a least some "Viking" DNA....or maybe that's an urban myth??
ReplyDeleteThe second mystery. Though that Baltic and Central Asia DNA could have been of 'Viking' origin... I was expecting at 10%, possibly 25%, to be of Scandanavian origin.
DeleteMy ancestry is a bit of a mystery.....My mother never had to pay a milk bill, .....I,'ll get my coat
ReplyDeleteGood idea...
