Persian Hordes

Back in June, 2017, I painted up a unit of 'rabble' for my Persian armies. As the last unit to be painted in 2018 (Christmas tree will be blocking my painting desk) I've painted up another unit of this figure to act as a few Hordes elements.

This lot are dressed as the dullest of the dull colour-wise. As such, they will be just as much at home in a Sassanid army as in the Achaemenids. Well, apart from the standard bearer.
Very plain outfits and very quickly painted - which shows.

Not based or varnished yet, still not sure when I'll be doing any more basing. New Year?

  1. One of my favourite colour schemes for ancient infantry. How sad is that?

    1. I find it annoying but necessary - all the greens and browns merge and I find myself thinking 'why not just spray them all one colour'

  2. Nice work... and I always put basing off as long as possible, it's such a tedious task.

    1. Mine is basic - bought in bases, pre-coloured Tetrion or similar, use that as the glue - just stick the figures in and smooth Tetrion around it, let it dry, done - Tetrion as glue and basic paint scheme. Originally just meant as a base but finished upas the whole job!

    1. Thanks, but really they are quite rough and 'basic wargames standard' - mass effect is good though.

  4. Really nice Rob and very brave of you using the correct colour scheme.

    1. Need more of them of course - but then, always need more of everything. It's just that the peasant rabble element of any army is never as much fun or pretty as the elite nobles.

  5. Great looking additions, love the impressive shields...

    1. The shields were originally from the SKT Sumerian range - they've proved very useful for a number of figure conversions.
