The Temple 3

So, from this we learn you should never follow up on demons into a field where they can push you back into the hedge boundary. The way to do it is to hit them front and rear. And there are trees...

If fighting giants, throw a 6. One I tried that proved successful - using dice that matched the colours of the figures. That way I don't have to remember which die is which.

Those demon dogs at the back of the column did well.

Things are looking awkward at the front of the column, though the middle looks a bit happier.

In fact, the front of the column is pretty much dead...

Spithradates is working on discretion being the better part of valour. The demon dogs are no more so the way back is clear and the guard archers and Greek mercenaries are doing a good job of of covering his exit...

Looking at his casualty list, perhaps it would have been better to just pay his respects to the local gods next time!

A few notes on 'choosing' the randomly selected monsters. Looking at the board, there are 6 distinct 'areas' , 3 on each side of the road. The temple, 3 buidings with fields and the 2 diagonal open areas. Roll a D6 to decide how many have creatures appearing in a move, then roll a die foe each section. Creatures appear in the highest rolling areas; if there's a draw for the last 'place' reroll for them. I rolled on 2 moves and decided that was enough. Generally I decided what creatures went where except that the giant went to the section with the highest roll.

  1. Great stuff! All the mechanics seemed to work well. I just played a solo Pulp game using similar sort of methodology...check it out if you are interested...but please, leave a comment if you do drop by!

    1. The system worked well - used HoTT, it has flyers., though probably not quite able to give a more specific characterisation of the different types.
