Hard to believe that it was in 2014 that I acquired Harry Pearson's figures. The purchase included 70 Greek slingers, G10, some of which I've just gotten round to basing. Plus some peltasts I bought on ebay a while back.

G10, Greek slingers. 36 of them, a bit over half the ones I got from Harry.

They aren't in Harry's painting style so I assume he originally bought them like this.

|
These peltasts came in with a load of early Warrior figures that I bought very cheaply.

Lousy paint job, but being a choice of basing them as they were or redoing the lot I decided to just base them!

Got a shock to think that Harry P might have given up the game, and that I had entirely missed that, but a quick bit of googling suggests it's "just" a move to flats. I do hope that's right - Achtung Schweinhund is a core text!

Didn't know he was still in the hobby - not the impression he gave at the time. Must have come later after a break. He still hasn't updated his blog!
DeleteI follow Harrys wonderful footballing blog and saw him just before lockdown at a wargames show. I know he is still interested in wargames but obviously he has other more important interests like non league football. But what a great book written by a really interesting man.
DeleteI was surprised when he announced that after all that went into gathering his collection that he was disposing it. I'm glad they, or some of them, have landed in a good place. The idea of letting go is less shocking now that I've been doing some of it myself!
ReplyDeleteTou were surprised? It was a total shock to me!
ReplyDeleteGood sized units there Rob - Harry doesn't do things by halves does he! Good bunch of Peltasts too - classic pose! I'm not at all familiar with the Warrior ranges - I remember seeing the adds in Mil Mod and the odd review, but I don't think I ever saw any in the flesh. Or if I did they went under the radar. Most of the contemporary manufacturers are championed by bloggers: Hinton Hunt, Minifigs and Garrison - of course! But I can never find much about Warrior, catalogues, collections or anything, and I suspect when they come up on ebay they don't get identified properly.
ReplyDeleteWarrior was/is a bit funny - figures very variable in size and quality. They were very much bargain basement and I didn't like their early Ancients. On the the other hand, they did (late 70s/early 80s?) produce an excellent Greek and Persian Wars range - I did try to buy that range, basically 'range doesn't exist any more, moulds destroyed, masters destroyed.' and finally conversation ended abruptly! Of course, Warrior is still in existence, though not uder Ray Seaton - think the curent owner is called John? - Don't know what their current ranges are like.
DeleteInteresting - obviously one of those ranges that is lost to us - it amazes me how many old ranges are still going or which are being re-born - my efforts proceed at a snail's pace compared to your own but I'm getting there!
