I'm always on the look out for new additions, and if the price is right...
4 quite decently painted elephants plus 9 crew.... though 1 elephant lacking a trunk, sure I can provide that myself. |
Plus an unpainted elephant, some infantry and cavalry. |
Total cost £31, so basically £6 an elephant. Total weight of figures 800g, not sure at current cost of metal but if it's £20 a kilo then the value of the metal alone would be £16 before postage anyway. So pretty good deal for them.
But my favourite elephant is still the mythical Garrison Carthaginian elephant :)
Not only cheap but that particular Minifigs elephant (the one in pieces) is, IMO ,one of the best elephant sculpts available - my Successor armies wouldn't be seen without one.
ReplyDeleteCan't say I'm biased because I've always thought it - my favourite elephant is the Garrison Carthaginian one!
DeleteI am convinced Garrison elephants are not real - they are just a legend from the halcyon days of wargaming. I have never seen one in the flesh but surviving publications from that long lost past are awash with artwork that purports to depict them.
ReplyDeleteYep, total myth :)
ReplyDeleteDon't think that faked up image will convince me otherwise... ;o)
DeleteMy mythical Garrison elephant (https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r_KjTZirOfo/UC_90I4QkrI/AAAAAAAADO8/Jbq1abM3d8g/s1600/4-marakanda+infantry.JPG)now lives with a friend but my Hinchliffe Sassinid ones were a close second and my Airfix war elephant, my first ever, was my sentimental favourite
ReplyDeleteIn the days before I could afford metal elephants my original armies used the Britain's baby elephant - tried an Airfix one but the ears got in the way.
DeleteSplendid Pachyderms Rob…
ReplyDeleteAll the best. Aly
