Living on the East Anglian coast the Lovecraft options are endless. One of the main place names in Lovecraft is Dunwich... move down the coast to Suffolk and there is a town called...
Dunwich. A town most of which has sunken beneath the waves. One of the characteristics of the East Anglian coast are salt marshes. Bleak places, they look about as sinister as it's possible to get - especially when a sea mist comes in.
So salt marsh scenarios are obvious ones to look for... hence The Farm...

First, the Farm itself - a recent buy. Simple kit with faults - needed some work with the knife. |
|
I used the standard Newhaven green for paintwork but did at least give the roof tiles an orange wash. Difficult to see on this picture but I also spent more time than assembly/painting to draw cobbles/flags on the courtyard! |
|
This is the view towards the sea. For salt marsh I need brown rather than green and yellow, plus a lot more scatter material - mainly browns and dull greens - with loads of water channels. |
|
A view from the sea. Salt marsh is very useful for grazing livestock - near us, cattle. |
|
And a view from the side. |
So that's the set up...
I lived in West Runton and then Cromer for most of my growing up years. I completely see your Lovecraft connection. This is great stuff.. I really love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks. The Newhaven universe is not England or America but somewhere inbetween so I'm trying to put together something that gives a Lovecraftian feel rather than being 'authentic'.
