The SS Something to do with Lovecraft

Just an update:   the ship is by SGTS' MESS.

A couple of years ago (or 3 or 4) I bought a resin 20mm cargo ship. It lay around quietly falling apart until recently when I started getting the Langley 1/76th scale figures at which point I repaired some of the damage and gave it a quick coat of paint.
Ship with Langley figures crew. Here they look spot on.

Still not perfect - the bridge crew and the enclosed bridge are still out of whack - but I don't think that you could get away with a taller bridge.

Meanwhile, 25/28mm crews certainly don't fit - this being the reason the ship wasn't put into service in the first place.

As to the ship itself, can't remember what make it is and I haven't painted a name on it yet - not sure whether to or not as I can imagine the model sinking several times in the future and don't want to have to repaint it every time!

  1. My own view is that you can 'get away' with ships underscale relative to the figures, in the same way as you can with buildings. So for mine, the tramp steamer 'looks right' with the 1:76 scale figures dotted around the deck. It's a very nice tramp steamer, by the way - pity to let it go to waste!

    1. It's a matter of 'looking right' on an individual basis - sometimes, looks right, sometimes not so much. For me, height seems to be more important than length - for example, the armoured cars I have are the right scale height for 20mm figures but look too high. My card ships are about the same length as this one but are higher and fit the 25/28mm figures better.

    1. Off to Kong island with you then ! Actually think that ship would be about perfect "game scale" for 15mm figs.

    2. Bought as 20mm but yes, 15mm is probably closer. Kong Island is one I can't do at the moment as I don't have any big monkeys. I do, however, have things lying around to do the Dracula scenario or possibly tie a T Rex on top of the hold...

  3. I missed the Lovecraft connexion. You going to feed this ship to Cthulhu?!

    1. All part of my Newhaven/Miskatonic University setup - expeditions by sea as well as by air. Obviously can be used for other setups as well but I expect most of the monsters will be Lovecraft based.
