I've already mentioned these but since then I've done a bit more work. Also, this post will look at them in a little bit more detail.
The current batch - still working on some of the crews. |
37mm anti tank gun. The one on the right was bought in an artillery set many years ago The one on the left is totally scratch built from card, plastic rod/tubing and Tiger tank road wheels. |
Model 92 70mm howitzer battalion gun. Again, Tiger wheels - should really have drilled a few holes in the wheels but didn't bother! |
How crude do you want them? Matchstick trail, the wheels are drawing pins. |
Model 11 37mm gun - about as simple as it's possible to get. As far as I can find this is the sole survivor of a considerable number! |
For some reason, an army takes on a whole special character when it comprises a fair number of scratchbuilt vehicles and weaponry. I'm looking forward to seeing postings of these guys in action!
ReplyDeleteI admit, even if nowhere near as good a commecial versions, the home made ones are always my favourites.
DeleteWhat a great job you have done with these conversions. The Airfix tradition lives on splendidly !
ReplyDeleteThank you. Think it's called 'going back to my roots'. Or could just be a second childhood thing. To be fair, never got over my first childhood.
DeleteThere is a certain extra satisfaction to be had from scratchbuilt and conversions!
ReplyDeleteA lot of extra satisfaction.
DeleteOld school scratch building with cardboard and matchsticks…
ReplyDeleteSplendid… it takes my mind back to the Airfix Magazine in the 1960s-70s.
All the best. Aly
Which, of course, is 100% of the inspiration for all of it!
