The slingers aren't all 'S' Range though. Some are PB. |
These figures are a bit strange. There is no light javelin listed, just 'Greek Peltast (Medium Infantry) Charging.' So I assume that this figure is the 'medium' peltast! |
A place where Ancient Ancient armies can peacefully retire to... Possibly. Oh, and some pulp. A few things on 6mm SciFi tanks and stuff. And the toy soldiers. Especially the War of 1897... And now I seem to be starting on 20mm Napoleonics as well! email GarrisonMiniatures@gmail.com

Nice figures, oddities or not, the slingers are very nice indeed.
ReplyDeleteI think the oddity is more to do with the Minifigs production policy rather than the figures - though to be fair I've always thought the helmet to look a bit strange.
DeleteLovely old school figures. That stingers helmet does look a bit fantastical.
ReplyDeleteYet it's just basically a pushed back Corinthian - actually, that is a separate style, can't remember the name though.
DeleteUseful batch of figures there. As you know, the pre-PB range Ancients can be hard to identify because they don't always have code numbers on the bases and there were at least two versions of many of the figures - as far as I can tell! I've not seen the Gr 9s slinger with a shield before - I have a few of the chap at the front of the line-up - so good to catch sight of him at last.
ReplyDeleteI must try and sit down sometime and work it out. Every time I look at early Minifigs I change my mind and think past ids were wrong! Never mind two versions, S Range seems to have had at least two styles both of which had two of their own versions! Some, like that slinger, are quite graceful. Others are almost crude. It's a nightmare.
DeleteStill lovely figures Rob, you lucky so and so.
ReplyDeleteCan't argue with that.
DeleteI know that there is what is often called an Intermediate Range in the Napoleonic range… it is set between S Range and the “current” Range… they are in my opinion a lot more elegant than the other ranges…
ReplyDeleteMaybe the same was done for the PB Range.
All the best. Aly
Ancients it's very confused. If you take the 'S' Range as effectively 1968-1972 that's four years during which they see to have had about 3 different sets of figures. Or 2. Or 4. Haven't decided yet...
