At the moment I seem to be painting cavalry. This lot are based on some Scots - the Spencer Smith catalogue has a painted version described as Lothian Horse, they also appear in the book Vanished Armies as simply Scottish Horse.
Grey uniforms seem to have been used by a number of militia and volunteer units, especially infantry - Scotland and Middlesex seem to have been the most common. One of my next projects will be to complete some of these units - although again as generic rather than named regiments.
Very smart unusual unit .
ReplyDeleteI would think more transition thasn unusual. It was a time period when khaki was coming in and the term khaki was quite flexible - suspect that the volunteer units were just stretching the definitions a bit in favour of looks over utility - though that is just my guess.
