Amazon LI and spears update

Only did a unit of 6 and based them as light infantry - not a troop type associated with Fantasy but then I'm not really following any set of rules/traditions slavishly anyway. They're not as 'weak' as they appear though - after all, Lybians were basically shieldless javelinmen.

Initial lot of 'proof of concept' figures finished with an addition. I've realised that the slimline Amazons fit in quite well with the slimline early Garrison figures - these are really 25mm themselves, I ONLY call them 20mm to distisinguish them from the later 25mm Ancient ranges. So the figure second from the left is a chimera utilising a Greek hoplite like the one standing next to it.

Still not sure which of these (if any) will make it to mould status though. All three have their advantages and disadvantages. Comments welcome!

  1. Looking good. I had a broken fam maiden and used a length of wire so she could still fan away but it doesn't look the same as a bendy old about to break piece of lead!

  2. I think the javelin skirmisher has a good classical feel, especially if you could rustle up a crescent pelta.

    1. Crescent shield not a problem - got some in my Rose spares box plus easy enough to take some off other figures.

  3. The Amazon made from a hoplite is nicer than the one made from a fan waving figure, in my opinion...

    1. Variants of this are currently edging towards the favourite opton.

  4. Must admit I like them all and they all have their place. Should make some nice units for your army,

  5. I like the light javelin along with the 2-handed spear, though maybe she should have more of a polearm rather than a spear. A falx or Romphia maybe? The hoplite is good as well.

    1. Lots of options, limited space on moulds! As fo polearm, it's a simplicity thing - as it is, it does the job without adding any complexity! The 'newer' version based on the hoplite is a definite!
