One thing I hadn't considered is that are quite compact - fitting them on 60mm deep bases leaves a big gap behind them! |
A place where Ancient Ancient armies can peacefully retire to... Possibly. Oh, and some pulp. A few things on 6mm SciFi tanks and stuff. And the toy soldiers. Especially the War of 1897... And now I seem to be starting on 20mm Napoleonics as well! email GarrisonMiniatures@gmail.com

They are very nice, colour scheme looks great, can't go wrong with red/black, works really well. I like the idea of the archers firing through the armoured front rank, the spearmen are lovely figures.
ReplyDeleteIt's one of those units that basically told me what the scheme was :)
DeleteRed and black is a fine colour scheme - but of course my favourite Rugby team is Canterbury (the one in New Zealand). But picking out in white, like the bows and havelocks (?) of the archers, gives it a lift. The dragons 'or' on the shields look good when the light catches them right. I might have been inclined to outline the dragons to give them a bit more 'definition', but they look good enough without.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Ion
I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the dragons turned out.
DeleteThey do look good in that scheme don't they - I like the touch of gold with the dragon on the shields. Interesting basing on those - big bases! Looking forward to seeing them in action ;)
ReplyDeleteIt isn't the bases it's the figures... most of my sparabara units have a row of shields in front, same with medieval figures and pavises. Ones carrting shields tend to be in 'action' poses that are 'deeper'. This lot are just - well, compact.
DeleteVery nice Rob…
ReplyDeleteThese look like the figures we used to use as city guards when we played D&D way back in the day… I never knew that they were called Zangirans 😁
All the best. Aly
Most of the S&S range are basically Conan based, often with a slightly different spelling to avoid copyright issues. So Garrison Zangirans are Conan Zingarans with a couple of letters switched around!
DeleteI've got the whole of four of these as Late 12th century dismounted knights. Like Aly, I didn't know they were Zangirans.
ReplyDeleteNotation I put on my SKT catalogue years ago describes them as 'Catalan Arabs chainmail kite shields'
DeleteStriking colours! It never occurred to me to face the figures shield-forwards. I've been having troubles getting the S&S spearmen to fit on 60mm frontages @ 4 per base - which seems to be a typical arrangement. I may just ignore convention.
ReplyDeleteSeemed to me that having the shield facing forward is the obvious one! The shield is what stops arrows and usually looks pretty...
DeleteI like these chaps. Interesting helmet and nicely painted. The golden dragon is well done, you are braver than me
ReplyDeleteThank you. Though the last comment is in no way deserved.
DeleteLovely figures Rob, strangely Ive been looking at some old casts which I presume are from this range, they are lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt's a really nice range.
DeleteSome of my favourite figures from the range, beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteThank you
