Another army I need to get back to... |
SAC1 Cavalry officer |
SAC2 Cavalry standard bearer |
Standard (cavalry and infantry) |
SAC3 Light cavalryman |
SAC4 Clibanarius |
SAC5 Cataphract |
SA1 Officer |
SA2 Standard bearer (separate standard) |
SA3 Levy spearman attacking |
SA4 Levy spearman in reserve |
SA5 Armenianlight javelinman |
SA6 Light archer |
SA7 Slinger |
Those look nice Rob - I don't remember Sassanids being part of the Garrison range and imagine they came out in the later 70s - lovely cavalry as always and that Levy spearman is a cracker. The lances/kontos look like they'd be a nightmare to cast though.
ReplyDeleteAs they have integral kontos I assume they were produced before Garrison started making figures with separate weapons. Likewise, I think by the 80s G&B started moving more towards 15mm figures. I have 1975 catalogue and they're not there so my guess would be late 70s. I tended to mainly buy Lamming around then so missed the various changes! Casting is the usual weird with casting. Every mould and every session is different! These ones aren't too bad though.
DeleteThes look interesting. I'm trying to move house at present but after I move I'm plannng a nostalgia project to reproduce the Hinchliffe Battle of Dara fron David Chandler's Art of Warfare on Land'. While this will be c. 99% Hinchlffe the odd one or two of these would add a nice bit of variation in the units - are they size compatible?
ReplyDeleteSorry, wasn't meant to be anon.
DeleteBlogger is often a pain these days - used to be much more user friendly. Garrison, Lamming and Hinchliffe are pretty much compatible, though Llamming riders a bit shorter in the saddle. See https://easterngarrison.blogspot.com/2021/11/sassanid-size-comparison.html
DeleteI do like the look of the Sassanids , some splendid figures there.

Yes, one of the armies I intend to finish - though I do have a small Lamming Sassanid army as well, plus a Minifigs elephant.
