A while ago I picked up 10 reasonable early Minifigs Roman cavalry. Main problem with them is the fact that they were mounted on plastic horses, although one had also lost his spear. However, as they would be based in 3s that doesn't really matter - it was always going to be 3 bases anyway. Meanwhile, simple task to paint up 9 Garrison horses to remount the decent ones.

ReplyDeleteVery useful, Airfix. An old Bob O'Brian(? spelling?) article in Airfix magazine back in the 60s 'Roman Friends and Foes' certainly spawned some of my early Ancient armies.
DeleteGarrison ie John Braithwaite did some great figures. I have always loved their ancient ranges.For some reason I always thought they 'borrowed' the horses from Airfix because they looked so similar.Great figures.
ReplyDeleteI think Airfix were responsible for a lot of early figure designs... a much better John Braithwaite 'Airfix' range are the MNinifigs JohnBee range - pure Airfix conversions that didn't last long.
