Rose artillery masters.

Somewhere someone mentioned that they thought they'd seen the masters for the Rose French Napoleonic gun (probably on one of the Old Metal Detector Rose blogs). That made me think people might be interested in them.
Most of my Rose masters are in tobacco tins or cigar cases, the 20mm (or, as described on the box, 25mm) artillery are in a 'normal' box. The 25 on the box definitely looks as if it originally said 20.

The masters are very neatly packed in polystyrene. The guns include limbers though I have not made moulds for these.

The French gun. The carriage is so similar in design to other nations I think I'll use it as a universal carriage.

British gun.

The American Civil War Parrot gun.

  1. Nice to see masters so carefully stored - they do look very neat. Can you tell what they are made out of? Looks like some brass in there.

    1. Pity Garrison didn't do the same! There is a bit of colour behind the dark grey so brass would be a good guess. Certainly has been used for masters - Bill Lamming once told me that he carved his masters from brass.

  2. Rob that was me. I'd met someone at the Stockton show who had bought some artillery masters at a local auction and wondered whether they might be Rose. Of course Bill Lamming made a very good range of artillery guns and equipment which were certainly very highly thought of by Don Featherstone.

I believe Les Higgins made all the masters for his "small 20mm" ranges - ECW and Marlburian, figures as well as artillery equipment - from brass.

You commented on my Rose posts on The Old Metal Detector - if you were serious about your offer to sort out a few odds and ends to complete those armies I have an "A list" which is a small number of figures to complete some units and some Rose guns to replace stand in Hinton Hunt ones, and a "B" list which is a bit more ambitious as it would provide a coupe of extra line battalions each for the French and the Austrians armies which are boyh vastly oversupplied with grenadiers.

    1. Chances are they weren't Rose masters then as I've got them!

Actually getting to the point of looking at Rose after doing all that (ongoing) Garrison stuff - will be looking at Garrison conversions as well. Your guns were cast yesterday, next few days I'll sort out the infantry figures (not forgotton, just too much to do - plus less 'free' time as I ramp up paid work after being off!. Some Garrison figures have apparantly just arrived in New Zealand. Quite happy to sort out other figures for you eventually, though not sure when and I'm afraid I'll have to start charging - just bought some metal from Tirantis as I don't need commercial quantities any more - it costs, plus if I do a lot of conversions I'll need to mitigate the cost of any new mould/s!

Obvious tagets for conversions would be to put different heads on the British artillery and perhaps do Bavarian infantry - I have a single figure on a mould of a Bavarian infantryman, so should be easy to make the other infantry figure plus officer. Standard bearers, just give an officer figure a flag - may not be accurate, but looks OK.
