Sorting a table

I think I've mentioned once or twice that I'm a pretty untidy person. That includes my wargames table...
It's just that open spaces naturally collect clutter...

So when I thought 'let's set up the Persian force at Plataea and see how much space it takes' - that metre rule showing in the top right hand corner represents the start of the clutter - and  I didn't have all the infantry or cavalry down. Plus the Thebans are still missing...

So I next thought -'can I get rid of/sort out enough clutter to give myself  a 10' long playing area.... ' seems I managed it...

The space doesn't look as much on the previous picture - perhaps it shows better here - the tiles are just short of 2' square.
So that leaves me with a decent playing area, next trick is to start sorting out terrain, etc, for a battle.

  1. Wargames tables are magnets for 'stuff' !

  2. Agreed. In my case, a magnet for my son's stuff. I finally took it down several weeks back given the futility of repeated requests and then threats to put his things away (not of my table), or else. Sigh.

    1. My son has lived away from home for over 20 years. Still can't get him to take all his stuff with him - half a shed's load!

  3. Yup. Lots of room around and underneath it though! Part of me occasionally misses the days of a bigger table in the middle of a bigger room but I wouldn't trade those days for these.

    1. Lots of space, true, much better than my previous setup.
